Electromagnetic Force

Electromagnetic force is the attraction between opposite charged particles, another words opposites attract. We hear this term so much in our everyday lives comparing things like people, magnets, and atoms. But where does electromagnetic force fit in to this. I read some other peoples blogs and came across some people saying that when a man is attracted to a woman then that demonstrates electromagnetic force. I do not agree with this. Just because two people are attracted to each other does not mean that the particles in them are attracted to the particles in the other person. I'm sorry, but that's not how it works. It is purly psychological, it has to do with the brain, not with a physical attraction between your bodies. Sorry, i got a little side tracked.

Okay back to electromagnetic force. Troy mentioned that compasses work because of the attraction bettween the magnet in the compass and the earth's magnetic pull. I think this is a good example because it really incoporates both big and small objects into the same scenario. Something as small as a compass is attracted to the earth's strong magnetic force, causing it always to point north. This was a wonderful invention because it can help you avoid being lost in desolate areas. Troy also talked about how electromagnetic force works in the body to keep you alive and working. So basically without electromagnetic force we would die. Actually we would never exsist in the first place. It really makes you appreciate the fact that opposites attract.

A less talked component to electromagnetic force lies in the fact that opposites do not only attract, particles of the same charge repel each other. I remeber when i was younger i would try to line up all the magnets on my fridge in a perfect line (just an OCD issue i have managed to overcome), but anyway, there were two magnets that refused to stand straight. One would always move away and mess up the whole line. (I forgot to mention that this line was also color-coded, so there was no chance i would allow them NOT to be by each other). This drove me crazy! I did not know why it happened then, i just knew that those two magnets did not want to be by each other. Now i know that it was because those magnets were the same charge, and they repeled each other. If i had known that years ago it was have saved me a lot of stress.

All in all, electromagnetic force it a wonderful thing, even if it does mess up color coded lines of magnets. It keeps us alive, it keeps the earth where it is, and it helps us in our everyday lives.

Random thought: Marcus had a really good analogy about electromagnetic force. He said that quiet people tend to make friends with loud people because loud people like to hear their voices and quiet people like to listen. Quiet people don't make friends with quiet people because neither one of them will talk and it will just be akward. Loud people don't make friends with loud people because neither will get to talk enough and it'll will drive them crazy. Besides this being an amazing analogy, it is totally true. And hilarious. Or maybe it is just me. But either way, props to Marcus.

Now i am going to blog about global warming, yippie.

i love your blog and you amazing points. I think my favorite part though would have to be the refrigerator magnets. with the OCD thing and all. Well, guess what. I did the exact same thing. like seriously! and ah. marcus' analogy is really good. [that comment should probably go on marcus' blog, but whatever i'll do it later.] anyway its really good. and so true.
you had excellent examples too. i was boring and unoriginal.
ooh. and the point about people being attracted to each other thing. i put that in my blog, but now that i think about it, you are absolutely right. i was trying to figure out how that worked even as i was typing. Its still an example about opposites attracting though, even if it doesn't show electromagnetic force.
wow. so that comment was filled with a whole lot of nothing. ahaha. so happy blogging. :)
